Startup Issues

If ProVAL will not start, the cause is most likely caused by a missing dependency or corrupted analysis templates.

Missing Dependency

ProVAL 4 requires the x64 version of the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. In most cases, this will already be installed. If you are using the Microsoft Store installation, this will be automatically installed if needed.

Corrupted Analysis Templates

More commonly, startup issues are caused by corrupted analysis templates. Moving or deleting the Analysis Templates.pvat file will solve this issue. The location of the file can be in either of the following locations, although the first is more common. The file may not be present if no templates have been created.

  • %LOCALAPPDATA%\The Transtec Group\ProVAL 4.0
  • %APPDATA%\The Transtec Group\ProVAL 4.0

Alternatively, use the following locations by replacing [USERNAME] with your Windows username.

  • C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\The Transtec Group\ProVAL 4.0
  • C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\The Transtec Group\ProVAL 4.0

Error Log

ProVAL 4.0.66 and earlier will automatically send error reports to us, unless disabled in the Options. ProVAL 4.0.68 does not send logs to us. This feature is expected to be re-enabled in the future. Meanwhile, you can send us the log file, Event Log.xml. If ProVAL cannot be started, the file can be found in the same locations listed above. If ProVAL can be started, the log can be saved using the Save Logs item in the Help menu:
